John Young has been quarrying stone around the western US for many years.
Here he’s hand-splitting wall stone from talus blocks of gneiss.
He’s half way through a 250 ton order for the latest Bozeman Airport expansion.
He drills and splits the large talus blocks into slabs. He then splits those slabs with a maul into the necessary dimensions for wall stone.
This is a slow process.
But someone has to do it.
The Bozeman Airport has used this local stone through several expansions through the years.
