Harney Peak Granite
1.7 billion years ago and many kilometers underground, the Harney Peak Granite intruded into an older mica schist. This granite is now exposed in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

The same Harney Peak Granite is being sculpted into the Crazy Horse Moument, 12 miles to the southwest of Rushmore.
