Limestones, and a modified form called dolomite, were deposited in reefs, lagoons, and as fine-grained calcium carbonate sediment (chalk) on the ocean floor. They are usually quarried in large blocks or slabs and then chopped or sawn into smaller pieces. Most limestones are light-colored (light gray, buff, tan) with textures that range from very dense and fine grained to relatively light and porous. Limestones are also commonly rich in marine fossils. CAn attractive light-buff colored limestone in semi-rectangular and irregular blocks.
