One of our favorite stones, particularly for Mediterranean-style architecture, is Cortona Limestone. This buff- and gold-colored limestone re-creates the appearance of limestones quarried for centuries in Italy and France.
In addition to having a beautiful color range, Cortona Limestone is also comparatively easy for stone masons to saw and chisel into desired shapes. It can be cut into oversize quoins and can also be sawn into beautiful large lintels, mantles, hearths, and arch stones.
Looking at the Cortona Limestone through a magnifier, as shown below, reveals the numerous fossils that compose this stone. The fossils are what give Cortona Limestone its interesting texture.
